Italian Football Coach Says No to Openly Gay Couples

By Editor

Italy coach Marcello Lippi on Wednesday said he would not select two players for his squad if they were openly involved in a homosexual relationship. But the veteran coach, who led Italy to World Cup glory in 2006, insisted that choice was not due to homophobia but due to the requirements of team morale. “In the current climate, two national team players could never be involved in an open relationship,” he told a web-TV station. “This is not a question of culture but is more related to the fact that such a relation would create conflicts contrary to the interests of the dynamics of the group. “Imagine how a homosexual couple in football would be perceived.

Copenhagen Proposal to Consider Same Sex Weddings as Marriage

By Editor
A majority of Copenhagen City Councillors are backing a proposal to allow homosexual couples to be declared ‘married’ when they enter civil unions at City Hall.

Culture and Leisure Deputy Mayor Pia Allerslev, the proposal’s sponsor, said the change was a matter of language. She was not seeking to change legal marriage rights for homosexuals. Currently, when people are joined in same-sex unions at City Hall, the presiding official pronounces the couple as ‘registered partners’.

Gay Legal Rights Group Urges Swift Elimination of USA's HIV Travel and Immigration Ban

By Editor
US Immigration SealAfter over twenty years of barring people living with HIV from traveling or immigrating to the United States, the federal government is one step closer to getting this baseless, discriminatory law off the books, according to comments submitted yesterday by Lambda Legal to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of the US Department of Health and Human Services has proposed removing HIV from the list of communicable diseases of public health significance for immigrants to the United States.

The ban originates from 1987, when fear about the spread of the disease led US officials to require anyone with HIV to declare their status and apply for a special visa.

UK Home Office Announces Ban on 'Legal' Party Drugs

By Editor
Man-made chemicals which are sprayed on herbal smoking products such as 'Spice' and the chemical solvent GBL are two of the so called 'legal highs' to be banned by the end of the year, Home Secretary Alan Johnson announced today.

Gamma butyrlactone (GBL) will become a class C drug, carrying a prison term of up to two years for possession and dealing will carry a maximum sentence of 14 years.

Mixed with alcohol or taken in too high a dosage it can kill within minutes. Unlike gamma hydroxybutyrate (GHB), which is illegal, GBL is currently legal and turns into GHB once in the blood stream.

Both drugs are increasingly used in the gay club scene but while GHB is sold by drug dealers, GBL is found in products such as nail varnish remover.
